The VAE is an academic tool like Exams and other controls that evaluates the level of knowledge necessarv to obtain University credits or a full degree. The VAE started in 1985 with the French VAP (Validation des Acquis Professionnels). The VAE as it stands now was institutionalised by a Law in 2002. It allows Universities to possibly grant any degrees through Work(/Life Experience. The VAE is adopted now in many other countries like Italy, Germany Spain, Portugal Switzerland, Andorra, Belgium. and Finland. Until now the US used timidly the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning).
